This children's book is a hilarious parody of classic picture books about animal sounds. 'Toot toot woekelie wuut' guarantees boisterous read-aloud sessions and also teaches children a valuable lesson about sharing.
The cow says moo. The horse says neigh. So far, no problem. But when the sheep says baaa, the goat interrupts him. Because the goat also says baaa. Now what? All the animals want their own sound! After some bickering, the sheep has a good idea: what if he says something no one has ever said before? And so he shouts with all his might: Toot toot woekelie wuut wopperdehop clip clop yucky plicky pruuuuuuuuut!
Unfortunately, even THAT turns out not to be a unique sound, because an alien promptly lands in a spaceship on the farm to claim the sound. The alien does have an interesting proposal for the sheep and the goat - a solution that will sound familiar to adults...
'Toot toot woekelie wuut' is the picture book debut of New Yorker cartoonist Matthew Diffee. It is unexpectedly and delightfully absurd due to the combination of classic illustrations and unexpected text. No moralistic message, but a funny story about the benefits of sharing, in an excellent translation by Zilveren Griffel winner Jaap Robben. This book is fun for children aged 4 and up.
